Introduction to the Shanghai Institute of the Belt and Road Construction Technology

In response to the national Belt and Road Initiative, Shanghai Urban Construction Vocational College (SUCC), Shanghai Construction Engineering School, Shanghai Minhang Vocational Education Group (Alliance) and Shanghai Construction Group jointly established the Shanghai Institute of the Belt and Road Construction Technology in 2017. 

Introduction to the Seminars on the Belt and Road Infrastructure Construction for International Talents

The Seminars on the Belt and Road Infrastructure Construction for International Talents are organized by the Shanghai Institute of the Belt and Road Construction Technology. The Seminars take the infrastructure construction as the core content, provide students with a knowledge system concerning full life circle of a project from the planning, design, construction to operation and maintenance, organize filed investigation of major domestic projects under construction, and improve students’ professional competence and practical cognition.

In November 2017, the first Seminar on the Belt and Road Infrastructure Construction for International Talents was held. More than 20 technical backbones from six countries (including Indonesia, Cambodia, East Timor, etc.) completed a two-week field study and training in the form of “short-term international students” in SUCC. In Shanghai, the participants learned about China’s architectural culture in the form of lectures and on-site visits, got to know Chinese traditional culture, and achieved good results.

The first successful experience made the second Seminar started in June 2018 even better. The learning manners were more diverse with classroom lectures, on-site teaching, practical training and Chinese cultural experience activities. The location extended from Shanghai to Xi’an and Beijing. It is worth pointing out that this Seminar has for the first time created the concept of Lu Ban School to inherit the excellent craftsmanship tradition of China, and incorporated Lu Ban culture, Lu Ban standards, Lu Ban skills and Lu Ban intelligent manufacturing.

Introduction to Lu Ban School

In June 2018, the second Seminar on Belt and Road Infrastructure Construction for International Talents first proposed the concept of “Lu Ban School” and integrated the four elements of Lu Ban culture, Lu Ban standards, Lu Ban skills and Lu Ban intelligent manufacturing. Lu Ban is the originator of ancient Chinese woodworking craftsmanship as well as the incarnation of the wisdom of Chinese ancient craftsmen. Bathed in the socialism with Chinese characteristics in the new era, we must inherit the wisdom and industrious spirit of our ancestors, keep up with the times, carry forward the wisdom and the spirit, and cultivate great craftsmen of current era. The Seminar presented outstanding traditional architectures in China, such as the Yu Garden in Shanghai, the Big Wild Goose Pagoda in Xi’an, and the ancient Great Wall in Beijing. We also set up a fun course about Lu Ban Lock, which allowed the participants to feel the profound architectural traditions of China and the wisdom of Chinese working people. All in all, the Lu Ban spirits will be passed down in future Seminars and further developed.
